The event took place on December 3 at the Museum of Moscow as part of the IX scientific and practical conference "Museum in the City – City in the Museum".
Speakers discussed the intersection points of charitable organizations and museums, the development of social initiatives, and the creation of conditions for effective partnership. The session was moderated by Elena Temicheva, Director of Communications and Strategic Development at the “Blagosfera” Center.
Oksana Oracheva, General Director of the Vladimir Potanin Foundation:
This year we presented two publications that expand the understanding of museum work. The anthology “The Museum for All Time” is based on the projects from various years supported by the Foundation. It was important for us to explore the topic of project legacy and to discover what remains after grant initiatives are completed. It turns out that much remains with the museum permanently: tools, communication practices, and other outcomes. The second publication, the monograph “Russian Regional Capitals: Development Based on Culture”, is the result of a large-scale study “Museum: The Power of Place”. In this study we examine the process of cultural development in regions from the perspective of internal partnership potential. The core of all the Foundation's activities is a view of museums through the prism of society. The competitions and initiatives we conduct are aimed at showing the possibilities of social component in museum activities. The Foundation strives to experiment and encourage new initiatives, demonstrating how grant competition tools can be effectively used to develop urban environments.
Natalia Malashenko, Communications Director of the "Kindness of the North" Foundation, spoke about the program "Museums of the Russian North," which implements comprehensive systematic support for the development of museums. Partnerships between NGOs and experts from other fields play an important role in this process. One example of such a partnership is a psychological webinar organized by the foundation to support cultural workers implementing complex inclusive programs.
Alla Orlova, Curator of Inclusive Projects at the State Tretyakov Gallery, shared details about the creation of a new inclusive space called "Kind Museum," implemented with support from the Vladimir Potanin Foundation. The space hosts creative practices and events for the professional community and facilitates partnership initiatives, such as a project in collaboration with the "Second Breath" Foundation.
Ksenia Belkevich, Deputy Director for Development at the State Museum of the History of Russian Literature named after V.I. Dal, noted that since 2022 the museum has been working on programs for people with disabilities. Over time, the museum team launched thematic mentoring activities for literary museums across the country. The establishment of the Inclusion Development Center helped the museum to expand its expertise: the museum now has the opportunity to share knowledge and assist other museums in launching their own inclusive programs.
Polina Zhurakovskaya, Curator of Inclusive Programs at the Museum of Moscow, spoke about the advantages and challenges of the museum's interactions with NGOs and charitable foundations. Polina highlighted the importance of external expertise and new opportunities for communication with the local community as positive effects of such partnership. As an example, she mentioned the museum's project "Moscow Without Margins."
The IX Scientific and Practical Conference "Museum in the City – City in the Museum" took place from December 3 to 6 at the Museum of Moscow. This year's main topic was the museum beyond the museum. During lectures, discussions, panel sessions and project sessions museum employees and specialists from related fields discussed the creation of museum projects outside the museums themselves.
